When we look at the night sky.. we are looking back in time… some of the stars we see no longer exist.. they may have died millions of years ago.. yet in the information they radiate into space.. they continue to live on. Is this nature.. giving us a clue..?
If my computer were to suddenly “die” on me.. I still have the information on an external hard drive.. and I have information on the Net.. the computer is just the hardware.. It is the information that matters.. I connect another computer to my external hard drive.. and the information is back again.. in fact.. it was potentially there.. all the time.
The body is a tool of consciousness.. it is an expression of biological engineering.. shaped by consciousness.. over millions of years of evolution.. guided by consciousness.
I am using the word “consciousness”.. in the widest sense.
The brain is simply hardware.. processing information.. and this constant stream of information that it processes.. and accesses.. is what we call…ME. However.. according to Buddhism.. ME is also an illusion.. because our identity is in a state of constant change.
Nevertheless.. this raises the question.. can this accumulation of information we call .. ME.. exist without the hardware..?
If it was stored on some kind of external hard drive.. there is no reason it shouldn’t
The good news is.. there is considerable evidence to support the existence of.. what I call.. a Primary Field.. which could serve as a super information highway.. and a act as a potential stimulation for a continuing consciousness. A metaphorical external hard drive.

If this primary field exists.. and the evidence for it is overwhelming.. then we have our “external hard drive”.. where a person’s information.. their character.. can be stored.. and accessed. Buddha taught that it is the character that survives death.. not the ego.
Hence.. the main concern of any authentic religion.. is character building.
Something else we might consider is that energy is self organizing.. and consciousness seems to be a form of imaginary energy.. which exhibits the quality of self organization.
I believe… to understand what energy really is.. we would be better off looking at ourselves.. than at what physics can presently tell us.. Physics describes what things seem to be made of and how the bits interact.. very well.. but it still lacks any kind of Holistic vision. The Whole being greater than the sum of its parts.
The existence of a Primary Field solves this problem. The problem for physics is that this field is intangible.. so it could never be detected by conventional methods.
We need to bear in mind that energy isn’t limited to just the material stuff.. Einstein’s work demonstrated that energy could also be imaginary. Hence.. Intangible.. like consciousness.. or gravity.
Knowing this we must consider the possibility of consciousness.. being a form of energy.. that continues to self organize.. even after the death of the (hardware) body.
For sure… our own dreams are evidence of the early stages of consciousness self organizing..
An afterlife would be the result of a continuing dynamic of the evolution of Imaginary Energy… meaning.. an evolution of consciousness.. towards higher levels.
The ascension begins in our own lives.. here and now.. we can choose.. up.. or down.
